Amazon Opens Online iPod Store

· by Brad Gibson · Reports

Online retailer Amazon, Inc. has quietly launched an online Apple iPod store, The Mac Observer confirmed Tuesday with a company representative.

A company spokesperson confirmed the report and provided an online link to TMO. The online store has standard retail pricing on all iPod products. The site appears to be still in production as many accessory products are missing. The spokesperson did not say when the store would be fully operational, but products can be bought now.

Apple launched its own online iPod Store in late Ocober.

The addition of the Amazon online store is a continuing sign that Apple is staying aggressive in marketing and getting its line of portable media devices in as many retail operations as possible. The additional retail sales points are further evidence as to increased estimates of Apple unit sales for the holiday period by analysts such as Merrill Lynchis Steven Milunovich, who said Tuesday he is forecasting iPod sales of 3.5 million in the current quarter.
