Apple Computer is offering new .Mac subscribers a discount for joining the service. From now until May 23rd, 2005, Apple is offering a US$30 discount to those buying a new .Mac retail box from either the online Apple Store, brick and mortar Apple Stores, or participating Apple resellers, making the cost for new subscribers $69.

The discount applies to retail boxes for .Mac, and not for those signing up directly through the .Mac Web page. Links to ordering .Mac through the online Apple Store instructs customers to: "Just add to your cart to see the special pricing."

.Mac offers users POP and webmail services, 250 MB of iDisk space, HomePage for building Web sites, Virex, iSync services, iCards, iCal, backup services, and more. Current members pay $99 per year for the service, but Apple has said that users wanting to renew at the discount should buy the retail box, and use the activation code inside to renew with the discount.

The company also noted that those buying .Mac from a third-party retailer will need to send in for a rebate to get the discount.
