Apple Ranks Second in Tech Hot Growth List

Apple Computer had a big growth year in 2006 thanks in no small part to the success of the iPod. That success help put Apple in the number two spot in BusinessWeekis Tech Hot Growth 50 list.

BusinessWeek had this to say about Apple "Apple Computer, number 2 on the Tech Hot Growth ranking, is the prime example of a company that has created its own opportunities. Its breakthrough innovation in digital music has made it an international icon and propelled sales up 39% over the past 12 months, to $19.3 billion. The company sold 39 million iPods in the 2006 fiscal year, as well as 5 million Macintosh computers."

Apple ranked above AT&T in third place, Google in fourth, and HIV drug research company Gilead Sciences in fifth place. The top company on the list was chip maker Amkor Technologies.

BusinessWeek also has a slideshow that features the top ten performers.
