Axiotron’s ModBook Tablet Mac Ships

The Axiotron ModBook, announced at Macworld 2007, has started shipping. The tablet computer modification is authorized by Apple.

The Modbook is an after-market hardware modification, authorized by Apple, which turns an off-the-shelf 13-inch Macbook into a high-end slate-style tablet computer.

"The Modbookis recent designation as an Apple-authorized product has allowed us to better meet the needs of our extremely patient customers and we are proud to be able to ship a product that rests the bar for Mac users everywhere," said Andreas Haas, president of Axiotron.

Axiotron is targeting artists, design professionals, and business people who need a pen-based solution in preference to a keyboard.

Features include state-of-the-art digitizer technology from WACOM, true pen and handwriting recognition, built-in GPS, and mounting locks in addition to the MacBookis built-in iSight camera, CD/DVD combo drive and wireless connectivity. Current MacBooks are available with either a 2.0 or 2.2 GHz Core 2 Duo processor.

The Modbook is priced starting at US$2290.
