Corsair Introduces Ruggedized Flash Drives

· by · News

Corsair announced on Monday the immediate availability of "extremely rugged" USB 2 Flash drives, the Flash Survivor series, in 4 and 8 GB sizes.

These flash drives are designed to be extremely tough. They are water resistant to 650 ft (200 m.) using an Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer waterproof seal and encased in milled aluminum combined with rubber molded collars.

Two end caps provide additional reinforcement. The drives are also engineered with highly screened NAND Flash, an advanced memory controller and dual channel interleaved memory in order to achieve up to fives times the memory transfer of typical Flash drives. Sustained read/write performance is claimed to be 34 and 28 MB/sec respectively.

Built-in AES-256 encryption software is provided, but does not work with Mac OS X.

The Corsair Flash Survivor GT, 8 GB and the Flash Survivor 4GB are available immediately and priced at US$129.99 and $59.99 respectively. They are backed by a 10 year limited warranty.
