< A HREF="http://www.gefen.com/">Gefen announced Tuesday the release of its new Firewire Extender 800, a solution that extends computer generated video for remote powered performance, up to 300 feet away.
The FireWire Extender 800 works through a sender and receiver system that connects the local computer to the remote device with multimode fiber optics cables.
"Without this type of system, Firewire can only be extended about 15 feet without seeing some type of degradation, either in time lag or video image," said Hagai Gefen, president of Gefen Inc. in a press release. The use of fiber optics cabling combined with innovative data packaging is what allows Firewire devices to perform as if connected directly to the source.
The FireWire Extender 800 is available now for $799; it is targeted at the professional studio application and the prosumer market.
