Intel Foresees 300% Jump in Processor Performance By 2010

Intel CEO Paul Otellini on Wednesday addressed the Intel Developer Forum and proclaimed: "By the end of the decade we will deliver a 300 percent increase in performance per watt over todayis processors. A single iYou Tubei stream today will hobble a PC from just a few years ago [and] as we move to high definition video, users will need eight times greater performance just for encoding."

Reporting on the event for Computerworld Today, Darren Pauli said that Mr. Otellini promised to move to 45nm processors, flash, and chips in the second half of 2007, as well as begin distributing quad-core processors this November. The Intel CEO said his company is also working on enabling laptops to have ten times less power consumption by 2008.
