LaCie Enhances d2 Extreme Line of Hard Drives With New Features

LaCie has beefed up its line of d2 Extreme external hard drives with new features, including FireWire 800/FireWire 400/USB 2.0 interfaces in all models. In addition, all of them also now offer "heat pipes" that draw heat away from the hard drive, and some models feature temperature-controlled smart fans that shut off when not needed.

The line comes in three versions: Bigger Disk Extreme, which consists of 1TB (US$899), 1.2TB ($1099) and 2TB ($2299) capacities; Big Disk Extreme, which offers 1TB ($1199), 600GB ($479) and 500GB ($399) models; and d2 Extreme, which comes in 160GB ($179), 250GB ($219), 300GB ($259) and 500GB ($599). The smart fan is standard across the Bigger Disk Extreme line-up, but itis offered only in the 1TB Big Disk Extreme and 500GB d2 Extreme.
