Mac Developers: Five Day Boot Camp For PHP Announced

B ig Nerd Ranch has announced a new retreat for people wanting to learn more about PHP. The retreat is called PHP 5 Bootcamp, and is a 5 day course from October 18-22. PHP is a scripting language that is used by many Web sites, including The Mac Observer where we use it extensively to power almost every aspect of the site. From Big Nerd Ranch:

PHP is an increasingly popular open-source, cross-platform, server-side scripting language that provides a critical tool in the development of fast-loading, robust and flexible web-pages, particularly for Mac OS X programmers. With the brand-new version 5, PHP now has solid support for object-oriented programming.

Upon completion of the course, PHP 5 Bootcamp students will be able to:

  • develop reliable, high performance web applications with PHP5
  • leverage the power of the PEAR frameworks
  • manage users with cookies and sessions
  • read and write to relational databases
  • parse and generate XML
  • create web services

David Sklar, PHP Bootcamp instructor, is the author of "Learning PHP 5" (OiReilly), "Essential PHP Tools" (Apress), and "PHP Cookbook" (OiReilly). He is a respected software developer and an instructor at the New School University and has spoken at many conferences, including the OiReilly Open Source Conference, the EGovOS Open Source/Open Standards Conference, and the International PHP Conference.

The Bootcamp is priced at US$3,500, which includes lodging, all meals, original instruction materials, 24-hour lab access, and transportation to and from the Atlanta airport. You can find more information on the retreat at the Big Nerd Ranch Web site.
