· by Mike Washlesky · News

Mireth Technology has released an update for ShredIt X, bringing it to version 5.2. ShredIt is an electronic document shredder designed for secure file deletion. The update features DoD 5220 standard compliance and a shred free space feature. According to Mireth Technology:

Mireth Technology has released version 5.2 of ShredIt X.

A privacy utility, ShredIt X is the electronic document shredder for Macintosh OS X computers that securely deletes files, folders and disk free space. Throwing a file in the trash does not remove the file contents from the hard disk - it just removes the file name from the directory, leaving the data intact and vulnerable.

New in this release is the shred free space feature which allows you to shred files which have been previously deleted and the Department of Defense 5220 standard compliance option

You can find more information about the ShredIt X update at the Mireth Technology Web site. ShredIt X 5.2 is free for registered users, while the full version is available for US$19.95.
