Program Installer Builder Updated

· by Kyle D\'Addario · News

Public Access Software has updated their simple Macintosh installer application, MacInstall, to version 1.2.5. MacInstall allows developers of shareware or freeware applications to build installers for their programs that will work across a number of platforms. According to Public Access Software:

MacInstall 1.2.5 beta 1 is now available from Public Access Software.

MacInstall 1.2.5 is a simple software installer targeted at ShareWare/FreeWare authors who need to install their software on a variety of Mac computers.

MacInstall 1.2.5 adds initial support for long file names (up to 255 characters) on Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X in the following areas:

  • MacInstall installers can save and restore long file names for files and folders to be installed on supported versions of Mac OS. Sub-folder items are not supported in this release.
  • MacInstall Editor can display long file names for items to be installed and for the MacInstall installers themselves.

MacInstall Editor 1.2.5 also substantially reduces the overall installer application file size when using MacInstall Compression and fixes some minor outstanding issues from MacInstall 1.2.

MacInstall is available for US$25. You can find more information at the Public Access Software Web site.
