Sony Laptop Battery Investigation Launched

· by · News

Following Dellis recall of 4.1 million Sony-made laptop batteries that pose a potential fire hazard, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has launched an investigation into other batteries made by Sony. Yahoo! News reports that Commission spokesperson Scott Wolfson said "We are looking at the complete scope of the batteries made by Sony to ensure that no other consumers are in harmis way."

Dell recently issued the battery recall after one of its laptops burst into flames in June.

Sony manufactured the battery for Dell, and it also makes batteries for other companies like Apple, Hewlett-Packard, and Lenovo. So far, there is no indication that the batteries Sony made for Apple pose any hazard. To be safe, however, Apple is conducting its own investigation.
