Shares in Apple Inc. jumped more than 4.4% Tuesday following the news that the company had sent out invitations to the media for a media event on January 27th. Shares closed at US$215.04, a gain of $9.11 (+4.42%), on strong volume of 26 million shares trading hands.

Apple sent out invitations to the media on Monday, which was Martin Luther King Day, a holiday on which the major stock exchanges are closed.
