Apple Releases iOS 6.1.4 with ‘Updated Audio Profile for Speakerphone’

| Product News

Apple released iOS 6.1.4 for iPhone on Thursday, an update whose sole patch note says, "Updated audio profile for speakerphone." So that's pretty much that.

It's an 11.5MB download over the air. The update isn't showing for everyone on TMO's staff yet, but several of us are seeing it in iTunes and on their iPhones.

Apple's KnowledgeBase article for the update mentions a security component, but the Apple Security Updates page has not yet been updated with this release.

If only Apple made WIRED speakerphones for desks and walls in our homes. With bluetooth connectivity to lights, thermostats, etc., as well as other apps.  I’m astonished at the lack of quality in such devices currently on the market.  But with so many mobile phone users eschewing wired home phones, the market may not be sufficient for Apple or anyone to make a quality speakerphone.

Last month I bit the bullet and cancelled my home phone service. The occasion was that I was moving from DSL to Uverse and no longer needed to carry a wired phone line. I opted not to get Uverse voice/telephone and we are just using our iPhones. I had concerns about being able to communicate during power outages when the cell service may be spotty; that happened last year with a big blackout affecting the entire Southwest. However, I have an AT&T M-Cell connected to my Uverse and the equipment is on battery backup.
