Apple Shows Logic Pro X Some Love with Major Update: Chinese Loops, Performance Boosts, Much More

Logic Pro X

Apple released Logic Pro X 10.2.3 on Thursday—despite the minor point revision, it's a serious update with tons of new features, improvements, bug fixes, and the new Chinese music instruments and loops brought to GarageBand in May (also see our video tip for accessing that content in GarageBand on non-Chinese language devices).

I love Logic Pro X—it's an amazing piece of software—and I'm constantly worried it will get Apertured, meaning ignored, abandoned, and then axed. While Apple does sporadically update it, releases like version 10.2.3 renew my hope that Apple is devoting real time and attention it to somewhere within the company.

The patch notes included on the Mac App Store are modest in length, but include some serious improvements such as the above-mentioned Chinese music instruments and loops, 7 more plugins with Retina support, improvements to Flex Pitch, the ability to graphically edit Crossfades in Take Folders, the ability to assign icons in Drum Machine Designer, and improvements to Alchemy.

But if you visit the update's page on Apple's support site there are more than 300 bullet points of improvements, new features, and bug fixes. I counted 318, but didn't want to triple count it to make sure I got it right while my eyes glazed over scrolling through the long list.

And a lot of those bullet points are in the "new features" and "improvements" categories. I call that a serious update, and as noted above, renews my faith that this software is an important product to someone within the executive team. Huzzah!

It was a 101MB download through the Mac App Store on El Capitan 10.11.5.
