Apple and News Corp Set to Launch The Daily

| News

Apple and the News Corporation have sent out invitations to an event on February 2, 2011 to launch The Daily. The event will be at the Guggenheim Museum in New York.

The Daily is the widely anticipated electronic Newspaper for the iPad. The grand experiment will determine if a modern digital newspaper with a paid subscription can create a following, successfully compete with the myriad of free news sources and actually make money.

Apple’s Eddy Cue and the News Corporation’s Rupert Murdoch are scheduled to present. Apple’s Seve Jobs is on a medical leave of absence.

The fact that Rupert Murdoch is involved pretty much means I’ll never subscribe.

Clive

Agreed. It is unfortunate for Apple to be associated with Rupert’s schemes.

Based on the lack of comments, it looks like this announcement gets a collective yawn.

The MO members have class.

I withhold judgement until I see an edition of The Daily.

I yawned until I heard today that a weekly subscription will cost $1!
That’s gonna make things interesting… If it works the NYT will have to follow suit and maybe other newspapers will too if they will admit that free websites are what is killing them.

I find that even our online version of the local newspaper is hardly worth the free cost, and I have all but stopped visiting the website. I can get more, and better, local news from the TV news broadcasts and/or their websites. The local TV news shows also have iOS apps. Inexpensive as it is I am letting my subscription to Time expire, it is getting thin.

Maybe News Corp can deliver a winning product. I am anxious to take a look at few editions.

I’m pretty sure we’ll get it on the work iPad (I don’t have one) so I’ll try it out and report back. smile
