Apple flipped the switch on turn-by-turn voice navigation for its iOS 6 Maps app in Australia on Wednesday, which had originally been promised for an October launch.

Apple dropped Google's Maps in favor of its own system with the release of iOS 6. Apple's Maps app doesn't include Street View -- a popular Google Maps feature -- or public transportation information but does offer true turn-by-turn voice navigation, which was missing from the iOS version of Google's Maps app. Some features from the new Maps app, however, have been limited to the United States while Apple ramps up service and works out licensing details in other countries.

iOS 6 users in Australia can start taking advantage of the new spoken turn-by-turn feature right away.
