Hands-On Photos of the iPhone 4S & Siri

| iPhone

The iPhone 4S was released into the wild on Friday, and our own Jeff Gamet was on hand at the Flatiron Crossing Apple Store in Denver, CO. Better yet, he took some photos of the device, and while it looks very similar to the iPhone 4, there are folks wanting to see it in action, especially with Apple’s new voice-command technology, Siri. Accordingly, we present the following images.

In the image below, Jeff Gamet activated Siri and asked, “Do I need to wear a jacket today?”

Siri’s response was to show a screen from Apple’s Weather app with the information that the low will be 54º during the 10:00 AM hour. For those keeping score at home, that’s smack-you-upside-the-head awesome.

Does invoking Siri bypass a passcode lock, if there is one? Or does it make you type or speak the code first? I’ll be able to test this later today myself, but just curious.

In the image below, Jeff Gamet activated Siri and asked, ?Do I need to wear a jacket today??

Siri answered “A gentleman always wears a jacket.”

I will probably wait a few weeks until I buy a brace of iPhones. Probably 32GB models, a white one for my wife and black one for me.

What I want to know is why can’t you just go to the weather app that’s ALREADY ON THE PHONE!?!?

Siri will come in handy in those situations where you can not use your hands to operate the phone such as while driving an automobile. Not to mention for those who may not have hands or otherwise do not full use of them.

Not to mention the blind. The iPhone is already the most “accessible” smart phone. Siri makes it vastly more so.

Hey Sir Harry, I’ll have one too if you’re feeling generous?

For those people who prefer to (or even, through business requirements, have to) use a passcode, this feature allows you to determine the weather without first entering your passcode and then firing up the Weather app.
