Magellan RoadMate 2 Adds Lifetime Map, Traffic Updates

· by · Product News

Magellan released RoadMate 2.0 for the iPhone earlier this week. The new version of the turn-by-turn GPS navigation app gained free updates for U.S, Canada and Puerto Rico maps, as well as free traffic data updates.

Version 2.0 also added local business reviews through Yelp, the ability to perform Google local searches in-app, and also includes a redesigned user interface, point-of-interest sharing, highway lane assist, and more.

RoadMate uses the iPhone’s built-in GPS for turn-by-turn navigation with voice directions, maps routes based on fastest arrival time or scenery, automatically re-plans directions when drivers change routes, and can run in the background so users can access other apps or make phone calls.

Magellan RoadMate 2.0 is priced at US$59.99 and is available at Apple’s iTunes-based App Store. The new version is available as a free update for RoadMate 1 users.

Megallan also offers a Premium Car Kit with a built-in GPS receiver that offers improved performance for iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 users, and adds GPS capabilities for iPhone 3G and iPod touch users. The Premium Car Kit is priced at $99.99.

seems pretty pricey after buying the car kit for the improved performance. I can buy a very reliable Garmin for around 100 bucks. P.S. Lifetime mapsmeans only 3 years according to the developers description on the app store. Very deceptive if you ask me

Just wasted my $ on this for my verizon iphone. Obviously untested release. The map display is screwed up and unusable (blank or garbage) and the audio is non-existent (no sound). Wow! Big Fail.
