Satechi’s iDevice Speaker/Charger Does Double Duty Beautifully

| Quick Look Review

Satchi’s Divoom iBase-1 is a speaker with enough power to fill a room while it is also busy recharging your iPod, iPhone, or iPad. It works with all versions of the iPad, all versions of the iPhone from 3G forward, all versions of iPod Touch, and the 6th generation nano.

The unit has four full-range neodymium dynamic drivers. Thee total RMS power is 10 watts with a signal to noise ratio of greater than 80 dB. The driver size is 2 by 2.5-in. There is a 3.5mm line-in jack that will work with other brands of products. There is a soft light around the bottom of the unit that can serve as a night light, but it can also be turned off.The unit is 16-in at it’s widest point. It is available in black or white from the company web site. The MSRP is US$44.99.

Using the product

In addition to the docking station, the iBase-1 has a vertical support that helps hold the device in place. I was able to insert my iPhone with a Ballistic SG case without removing the case as is evident in the following photo.

It also handily holds an iPad, as long as you secure it completely on the docking station. Even though the vertical support seems short, it works and there is no wobble. None of my iPad cases are thin, so I was not able to try the iPad with a case.

Oh yeah, about the sound. It is great and it really can be heard across the room. Or if your place is small, in more than one room. In my condo I can hear it in my living/dining/kitchen area just fine. I really like this because I like to listen to talking books from Audible.com when I am working around my place. I had to carry my previous portable speaker where ever I went. This is much more pleasant.

Do I recommend it?

I do. Depending on your needs, of course, but if you have a need for a portable speaker this one is great and it is at a reasonable price. At night, mine stays on my night stand and charges my phone.

The picture of the unit holding an iPad suggests to me that it is more like 16-cm, rather than 16-in, at its widest point.

I measured it with a standard US ruler so it did indeed measure 16-in.
