Apple Lights Up Battersea With Public-Created iPad Christmas Trees

Apple invites the UK to design iPad Christmas trees for Battersea’s chimneys

Apple is celebrating the winners of Your Tree on Battersea, a festive competition that asked people to design digital Christmas trees on iPad. The company put a spotlight on community creativity and brought these user-made designs into a major public installation. Apple said the project continues its push to highlight art made on its devices, and it fits neatly into its holiday tradition.

Starting today, the 24 winning submissions will be projected onto Battersea Power Station from 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. each evening through 24 December. The display turns the iconic London landmark into a canvas for both public and professional artwork. Because of this mix, visitors will see a wide range of styles and ideas throughout the month.

Alongside the winning entries, the building’s chimneys will also feature trees created by well-known artists and public figures. Apple included names such as Kylie Minogue, Sir Stephen Fry, Maro Itoje, Oliver Jeffers, David Shrigley OBE, and Chawawa. This blend of community voices and established creators gives the installation a broader cultural feel.

Apple Extends Its Holiday Creative Tradition

Apple says this competition continues a line of holiday-themed art projects that began years ago. In 2023, David Hockney created Bigger Christmas Trees on iPad Pro, and the installation changed how people saw the 101-metre-high chimneys and wash towers along the River Thames. Last year, Aardman, the studio behind Wallace & Gromit, used an iPhone 16 Pro Max to produce a short animation for the same location, again shifting the look of the power station.

This year’s public contest marks the first time Apple has opened the project to everyone. The company wanted more people to participate and see their own work displayed on one of London’s most recognizable buildings. The result is a holiday showcase built around both tradition and fresh ideas.
