New Filing Hints at a Studio Display or Pro Display XDR Update

Internal Code Confirms Next Studio Display Will Support 120Hz and HDR

A new Apple monitor has appeared in a Chinese regulatory database. The filing points to an upcoming Mac external display, as Apple prepares to refresh either the Studio Display or the Pro Display XDR in 2026.

A new model quietly surfaces

MacRumors reported the discovery on Thursday.

“An unreleased Apple display with the model number A3350 surfaced in a Chinese regulatory database today.”

The listing says the model will use a “high-performance LCD display.” It does not confirm whether this is a new Studio Display or an updated Pro Display XDR. Still, the appearance of a model number suggests the product is moving closer to launch.

Apple has not updated its external displays in years. The Studio Display arrived in 2022. The Pro Display XDR launched in 2019. Both now feel overdue for a refresh.

What could change

Recent reports point to a new Studio Display with several upgrades. If accurate, the next version would improve both performance and visuals. Expected changes include:

  • A19 or A19 Pro chip
  • ProMotion with a 120Hz refresh rate
  • HDR support
  • Possible mini-LED backlighting

The current Studio Display runs on an A13 chip, stays at 60Hz, and lacks HDR.

MacRumors notes that Apple filed the original Studio Display in the same database about three months before its 2022 launch. That timeline raises the possibility of an early-2026 release.

Bloomberg has also said Apple plans a new Mac external display for 2026. Apple is expected to release M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pro models around the same period. A refreshed display could launch alongside those machines.

For now, Apple has not confirmed anything. But the A3350 filing offers a clear signal. A long-awaited update to Apple’s external displays appears to be on the way.

  • Apple needs a consumer level 27 ” or larger monitor or iMac. Prosumers, small businesses are not using a 24″ iMac and not paying the cost for a Mac Mini or Studio and an Apple Monitor.

Timmy has forgotten or discarded a large market of mac faithful in order to focus on subscriptions for everything.

My employer is still using all 2019 iMacs and at home for side work I am using 4 even older intel iMacs. I have never used a windows computer but I am looking into switching as is my employer.
