Apple is preparing a major display upgrade across several of its Mac and iPad models. The company plans to move more products from LCD to OLED panels over the next few years, with changes expected between 2026 and 2028.
OLED screens offer richer colors, deeper contrast, and true blacks. As a result, this shift will bring visible improvements to everyday use, especially for media, creative work, and general clarity.
New Report
According to DigiTimes, Apple intends to upgrade the iPad mini, MacBook Pro, iPad Air, iMac, and MacBook Air with OLED displays within this timeframe.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman earlier reported that the iPad mini and MacBook Pro could receive OLED as early as 2026, while the MacBook Air is not expected to adopt the technology until 2028.
He also noted that the next iPad Air, expected this year, will continue to use an LCD panel. A later model is planned to move to OLED, likely no earlier than 2027.
Last month, The Elec reported that Apple is working on a 24-inch iMac with an OLED display, targeting a 2027 or 2028 release.
Expected OLED Timeline
Based on current reports, Apple’s OLED roadmap looks like this:
- iPad mini: 2026
- MacBook Pro: Late 2026 or 2027
- iPad Air: 2027
- iMac: 2027 or 2028
- MacBook Air: 2028
OLED panels deliver higher contrast, more accurate colors, and better viewing quality than traditional LCD screens. Each pixel lights independently, which allows true black levels and more efficient control of brightness.
Apple already uses OLED across the entire iPhone lineup, the Apple Watch range, and the iPad Pro series. Apple Vision Pro goes a step further with micro OLED displays.
As this transition expands to more Macs and iPads, users can expect a consistent visual experience across Apple’s product line, with clear benefits in both quality and performance.
