WhatsApp Web Is Finally Getting Group Voice and Video Calls

WhatsApp Web is about to close one of its biggest gaps. Group voice and video calls are finally on the way for the browser-based version. This has ranked high on user wishlists for years, especially for people who rely on WhatsApp at work or on shared computers.

Group calling comes to the web

According to WABetaInfo, Meta is developing support for group voice and video calls on WhatsApp Web. The feature is still under development and is not available to beta testers yet. Once it launches, users will be able to join group calls “regardless of the device they are using.”

This change brings WhatsApp Web closer to feature parity with the mobile and desktop apps. It also solves a practical problem. On many work or public computers, users cannot install desktop software. Web-based calling removes that barrier.

WABetaInfo explains that WhatsApp had hinted at web calling last year, but group support was limited at the time. The company is now refining the system to make it fully compatible with group chats. As the report puts it, this update aims to ensure that “all users can participate in group calls, regardless of the device they are using.”

Participant limits and extra features

The report adds that WhatsApp Web could eventually support up to 32 participants in a group call. At launch, the limit may be lower, such as eight or 16 users, while WhatsApp fine-tunes performance.

Beyond group calls, WhatsApp is also working on other calling tools for the web client. These include incoming call notifications, shareable call links, and scheduled calls with names and descriptions. These features are currently under development and will likely be rolled out gradually.

For frequent WhatsApp Web users, this update marks a long-awaited step forward.
