Apple released iOS 16.7.14 to fix a serious problem that blocked emergency calls on some older iPhones in Australia. The update targets a bug from iOS 16.7.13 that stopped devices from reaching emergency services in certain cases. As a result, people using these phones now regain access to critical calling when they need it most.
Apple said the new update fixes the network fault. In its release notes, Apple says that iOS 16.7.14 addresses a mobile network issue that was preventing emergency calls. The company confirmed the issue affected only a small group of older devices but treated it as urgent.
Which iPhones get the fix
The update is available for these models:
- iPhone 8
- iPhone 8 Plus
- iPhone X
These devices had trouble connecting to emergency services after the earlier iOS 16.7.13 update, which Apple later pulled after reports from Australia.
What happened before this update
Australian mobile networks have been upgrading how emergency calls work. Those changes caused conflicts with older iPhones. Because of that, some phones failed to place emergency calls in certain situations.
Last week, Telstra issued a temporary carrier settings update to keep emergency calling working while Apple prepared a full software fix.
How to install iOS 16.7.14
Follow these steps:
- Open the Settings app

Apple also released iPadOS 16.7.14 for older iPads that face similar network issues.
