iPhone 18 Pro Reportedly Enters Trial Production Stage, Mass Production Next

Apple has reportedly moved the iPhone 18 Pro into trial production ahead of its expected launch in September. This stage signals that the company has finalized most design decisions and is now validating manufacturing processes before full-scale production begins later this year. Trial production helps Apple and its assembly partners detect any issues early while using real production lines and tools.

The device is progressing on schedule. At this point in the cycle, Apple typically transitions from design validation into production validation, where factories test yields, assembly flow, and quality control under near real-world conditions.

According to Chinese leaker “Fixed Focus Digital” on Weibo, the new lineup has already entered production testing.

“The 18 series is already in production testing. The production line of the iPhone 18 Pro has also started. According to the current information, the material has not changed much, and the current scheme specifications are still used as a whole.”

The claim that materials “have not changed much” aligns with earlier reports that Apple will retain much of the iPhone 17 Pro design. Most visible changes appear limited, with talk of a smaller Dynamic Island rather than a major redesign.

Color Choice Still Under Review

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman recently reported that Apple is testing a deep red finish for the Pro models. He described red as the new flagship color currently under evaluation. If Apple plans to ship that option at launch, it would normally finalize the decision by now. However, Apple could still introduce the color later, as it has done with previous special editions.

Internally, the iPhone 18 Pro is expected to bring more meaningful upgrades. Reports point to a new camera system with a variable-aperture lens, the A20 chip, and a custom C2 modem. Even so, Gurman suggested the Pro models may not headline Apple’s fall event, as the company’s first foldable iPhone could take center stage.
