Spotify is testing a new way to shape your music recommendations, and this time it goes beyond simply excluding songs or playlists from your listening history. The company appears to be working on a feature called Notes that lets you directly write feedback tied to your Spotify Taste Profile, which could influence what you see on your Home feed and other recommendation surfaces.
Right now, Spotify builds your Taste Profile based on what you play, skip, and repeat. That data powers Discover Weekly, Wrapped, Blend, and your Home suggestions. If your recommendations drift in a direction you do not like, your only option is to exclude specific playlists or tracks, and Spotify says those exclusions take up to 48 hours to reduce their influence. However, this system only removes signals. It does not let you actively tell Spotify what you are currently into.
AndroidAuthority reports that Spotify version 9.1.28.385 includes code strings referencing a new Notes feature connected to the Taste Profile.
Spotify Taste Profile Notes Music Control
The strings suggest Spotify will allow users to add written feedback that helps shape Home recommendations. One string reads:
“Your notes help influence what you see on Home.”
Another string says:
“Tell us more about you.”
There is also a placeholder example that reads, “I’ve been listening to a lot of…,” which hints at free-form input where you can describe your current music phase.
Based on the code, you will be able to send, edit, and delete feedback notes. Spotify appears to limit both the number of notes and the number of characters per note. If you reach the cap, you must delete an existing note before adding another, and deleting one will reduce its impact on your Taste Profile. That suggests Spotify plans to treat these notes as weighted signals within its recommendation system rather than simple comments.
This change matters because it shifts the system from being mostly exclusion-based to something more proactive. Instead of training the algorithm slowly through repeated plays, you can directly explain what you want to hear.
Custom Emoji Reactions in Spotify Messages
The same build also hints at a smaller social upgrade. A string mentions the ability to “Pick custom emoji reactions for chat messages.” Spotify Messages currently limits reactions to six standard emojis. Allowing custom reactions would give users more flexibility in chats and Listening Activity responses.
As with any APK teardown, features found in app code do not guarantee a public release. Spotify can refine, delay, or remove them before launch. Still, giving users more control over their Spotify Taste Profile notes music preferences would be a logical step in improving how recommendations feel personal and relevant.
