Palm Royale Canceled by Apple TV After Two Seasons

Apple has canceled Palm Royale after two seasons, bringing its Emmy nominated comedy to an end and closing the chapter on Maxine Simmons’ journey through Palm Beach high society. The series wrapped its second season in January, and although the central storyline left room for more, the streamer decided not to move forward with a third season.

Deadline reported the cancellation in an exclusive update.

“The Apple TV series Palm Royale has taken its final bow. The Emmy-nominated dramedy was canceled at the streamer after two seasons.”

Apple declined to comment on the decision.

Awards success but limited mainstream reach

Palm Royale never broke out in the same way as other Apple TV comedies such as Ted Lasso or The Studio. The show holds a 60 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 6.8 out of 10 score on IMDb. Even so, it earned 11 Emmy nominations for its first season, including Outstanding Comedy Series, and won for Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music.

The ensemble cast included Kristen Wiig as Maxine Simmons, alongside Laura Dern, Allison Janney, Ricky Martin, Josh Lucas, Leslie Bibb, Amber Chardae Robinson, Mindy Cohn, Julia Duffy, and Carol Burnett. Wiig also received awards recognition for her performance, and the series secured additional nominations in its second season.

Based on Juliet McDaniel’s 2018 novel Mr. and Mrs. American Pie, the show premiered on Apple TV on March 20, 2024, and ran for 20 episodes. It followed Maxine in 1969 as she tried to cross the line between the “haves and the have-nots” in Palm Beach society, often asking how much of yourself you are willing to sacrifice to get what someone else has.

Season 2 ended with Maxine facing social exile after a public scandal, while a tribute to Carol Burnett’s character, Norma Dellacorte, marked a warm farewell. Burnett sang “Something Good” in the finale, which served as a fitting close to the show’s run.

For now, Palm Royale fans will have those two seasons, and that is where the story ends.
