Apple is preparing a major shift for Siri with iOS 27, and the company may introduce a dedicated Siri app that works more like an AI chatbot, giving users a more focused and conversational experience across iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple has been testing this standalone Siri app internally, which signals a clear move toward treating Siri as a full-featured assistant rather than a background tool, while the company continues its broader push into AI with upcoming Apple Intelligence features.
Siri to become a chatbot
Apple’s next version of Siri focuses on deeper interaction and a cleaner interface, and the new app reportedly takes cues from chat-based tools, similar to how Messages works, allowing users to have back-and-forth conversations in a more natural way.
This change also aligns with Apple’s partnership with Google to use Gemini AI models, which will power future Siri upgrades and Apple Intelligence features, although Apple has yet to release those capabilities publicly after previewing them earlier.
At the same time, Apple continues testing how Siri fits into the system more broadly, including an “Ask Siri” toggle that allows users to trigger the assistant across different apps, along with a “Write with Siri” feature designed to help with text generation tasks.
New Siri design uses Dynamic Island
The updated Siri interface in iOS 27 introduces a new visual style that feels more integrated into the system, especially on iPhone.
“One new design in testing places Siri at the top of the screen within the Dynamic Island, the mini-interface that Apple introduced in 2022. After it’s activated, Siri will prompt the user to “Search or Ask.””
As users interact with Siri, the interface responds in real time with visual feedback.
“When processing a request, a pill-shaped indicator labeled “Searching” appears, alongside a glowing Siri icon. Once results are ready, the interface expands into a larger translucent panel with Apple’s Liquid Glass design. Users can pull the menu down further to begin conversing back and forth.”
Apple last redesigned Siri in iOS 18, and this update builds on that foundation with a more modern and fluid interface, setting the stage for a bigger AI-focused rollout expected at WWDC starting June 8.
