Mac Pro Officially Discontinued by Apple, Mac Studio Takes Over

Apple has officially discontinued the Mac Pro and removed it from its website, closing a long chapter for its most powerful desktop. The company confirmed that it has no plans to release future Mac Pro hardware, which signals a clear shift in its desktop strategy.

9to5Mac reports that Apple pulled the Mac Pro from its online store and redirected its buy page to the main Mac lineup page, where the product no longer appears. The company also confirmed that development has ended, so no new version will arrive.

Mac Studio becomes Apple’s pro desktop

Apple now positions the Mac Studio as its top desktop for professional users, and the move makes sense given how the lineup has evolved over the past few years. The Mac Studio offers newer chips, including the M3 Ultra, with up to a 32-core CPU, 80-core GPU, 256GB memory, and 16TB storage, which gives users strong performance without the size or cost of the Mac Pro.

The Mac Pro last received an update in 2023 with the M2 Ultra chip, but Apple kept the same 2019 design and a starting price of $6,999, which made it harder to justify as newer systems arrived.

Apple now sells three desktop Macs: iMac, Mac mini, and Mac Studio, along with three laptops across different price ranges. This tighter lineup gives buyers clearer choices, while features like Thunderbolt 5 connectivity allow high end users to scale performance without relying on a single machine.

Mac Pro loyalists will miss it, but Apple has already moved forward.
