Apple has quietly removed more RAM upgrade options for the M3 Ultra Mac Studio, leaving buyers with just one available memory configuration as supply issues continue to affect some of its high-end Macs. The company no longer offers the machine with 256GB of unified memory, and the earlier 512GB option had already disappeared from Apple’s online store back in March.
Basic Apple Guy first spotted the latest change, noting that the M3 Ultra Mac Studio now ships only with 96GB of RAM. Even before Apple removed the 256GB option, customers struggled to place orders because inventory remained extremely limited across several regions.
Apple recently warned that both the Mac mini and Mac Studio would stay supply-constrained for the next few months, which explains why the company has started trimming configuration options instead of delaying orders indefinitely. Apple also removed the base storage Mac mini model last week, suggesting the shortages extend beyond memory components alone.
The change stands out because Apple still allows buyers to configure the new M5 Max MacBook Pro with up to 128GB of memory, while the Mac Studio, which targets professional workflows, now offers far less flexibility for users handling AI workloads, 3D rendering, or advanced video production tasks.
Other configurations removed:
Mac Mini M4 Pro with 64GB RAM
Mac Studio M4 Max with 128GB RAM
