AMD has launched a new marketing campaign that directly targets Apple’s MacBook Neo, arguing that Ryzen-powered Windows laptops offer a better gaming experience thanks to broader game compatibility and access to larger gaming libraries. The comparison has reignited the long-running Windows versus macOS debate, although the two platforms serve different audiences and priorities.
AMD highlights gaming as one of the biggest differences between the two platforms and claims that Ryzen systems can run all 20 top PC games natively. At the same time, the MacBook Neo supports only five of those titles without additional workarounds.
“While 15 of the top 20 PC games do not run on Macbook Neo natively, AMD systems give you access to massive game libraries across Steam, Epic Games Store, and PC Game Pass. High frame rates. Advanced graphics. Full compatibility. No workarounds required.”
AMD Focuses on Gaming, Ports, and Productivity
AMD also compares an HP OmniBook X Flip powered by the Ryzen 5 220 against the MacBook Neo with Apple’s A18 Pro chip. According to AMD, the Windows laptop offers more storage, additional ports including USB-A and HDMI, touchscreen support, and stronger compatibility with PC gaming platforms.
The company further claims that the Ryzen 5 220 delivers up to 57% better multitasking performance, up to 38% faster content creation performance, and up to twice the Wi-Fi speed compared to the entry-level MacBook Neo. AMD also promotes features such as touchscreen support, stylus compatibility, and flexible laptop designs from partners including HP, Lenovo, and ASUS.
However, the comparison largely centers on software compatibility rather than raw gaming performance. While Windows naturally supports a larger selection of PC games, the MacBook Neo was not designed as a gaming-focused machine. As a result, AMD’s argument focuses more on platform access and feature availability than on delivering high-end gaming performance in demanding modern titles.
