Apple is preparing to remove the AirPort Utility app from the App Store, according to the release notes for iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27. The change affects users who still rely on Apple’s discontinued AirPort routers and Time Capsule devices for network setup and management.
AirPort Utility Is Being Phased Out
In the iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 beta 2 release notes, Apple says that AirPort Utility will no longer be available for download from the App Store. However, users who downloaded the app earlier will still be able to re-download it from their purchase history.
Apple also warns that AirPort Utility may not work properly on iOS 27 and later, which means users should not expect full support once the new software releases publicly.
For Mac users, Apple says AirPort Utility will no longer come with new clean installations of macOS 27 Golden Gate. However, users who update their Mac while the app is already installed will keep it on their system, although functionality is not guaranteed.
This change mainly affects people who still use AirPort Extreme, AirPort Express, or Time Capsule devices. Apple stopped selling its AirPort hardware years ago, so this move continues the slow phase-out of support for older networking products.
The timing also follows reports that macOS 27 will drop support for file-sharing protocols used by Time Capsule as a Time Machine backup destination. A workaround has already appeared, but Apple’s latest release notes make it clear that official support is fading.
Apple has not announced the exact removal date yet, but users who still need AirPort Utility should download it before it disappears from the App Store.
