Code found in Apple’s backend car key system suggests the company is preparing to add Apple Car Key support for MG vehicles, giving owners another way to use their iPhone or Apple Watch instead of carrying a traditional key fob.
Apple Car Key lets drivers lock, unlock, and start supported vehicles using an iPhone or Apple Watch, while Express Mode allows compatible cars to recognize the digital key without requiring Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode each time.
The latest backend references point to SAIC Motor’s MG brand, although the code does not reveal which MG models will support the feature or when the rollout will begin.

MG has expanded quickly across Europe in recent years, helped by growing demand for its electric cars, including the MG4 and MG Cyberster, while the brand has also built a strong presence in the UK market.
The company recently delivered its one millionth vehicle to a European customer, with around 386,000 of those sales coming from the UK, where MG now holds more than four percent of the market and ranks among the country’s 10 largest carmakers by sales volume.
MG started as a British sports car brand in 1924 before China’s SAIC Motor acquired it in 2007, and the company has since developed a broader lineup that includes electric vehicles, crossovers, and performance models.
Apple has not announced MG Car Key support, and MG has not confirmed compatibility either, so the exact launch timing and supported models remain unclear.
However, Apple adding MG references to its backend car key system usually points to active preparation, which suggests compatible MG vehicles could gain Apple Car Key support once Apple and the automaker complete the rollout.
