"1984" Named Best Super Bowl Ad Ever

Appleis 1984 commercial has been named as the best Super Bowl ad to ever run. The commercial ran but twice - once during the third quarter of Super Bowl XVIII, and once during a late night show to qualify for an advertising award - but had more of an impact than any other ad during the 40-year history of the football event, according to Playfuls.com.

The commercial depicted an Orwellian 1984-style future that crumbles when a woman throws a sledgehammer through a screen showing the face "big brother" to reveal the first Macintosh computer.

The 1984 commercial was ranked the best based on its impact, sales, and memorability for viewers. The second-place ad was the Anheuser-Busch 1989 Bud Bowl ad that featured Budweiser and Bud Light beer bottles playing football.

Bob Circosta, president of Bob Circosta Communications, commented that the two commercials "managed to transcend marketing and actually become staples of our American culture."
