Game Creation Tool Unity Gets Universal Binary Deployment, More

OverTheEdge Entertainment has released an update to its game creation tool Unity, adding the ability for developers to deploy their games as Universal Binaries that run on Intel- and PowerPC-based Macs. In addition, support for the Windows side is now comparable with the Mac side, ensuring that games created with Unity are the same on both operating systems.

Other changes include a new framework that uses Unityis shading engine for real-time full-screen effects, the ability to add and extend workflows for 3D content editing, new character-related features, including tools for "rag dolls" and firs-person shooter controls, and more.

Unity 1.2.2 is free for all Unity 1.x owners. The standard version of Unity sells for US$249 while the Pro edition, which offers access to more graphical effects, sells for $999. System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.3, a 500MHz G3 processor, 256MB RAM and a Radeon or GeForce video card with 32MB of Video RAM.
