LaCie Announces 1 TB, Bus-powered Portable Drive

LaCie announced on Monday the immediate availability of its Little Big Disk Quadra 1TB. The bus-powered portable drive fits in the palm of your hand.

The mobile drive features two 2.5 inch disks in a RAID 0 (striped) configuration. The burst transfer rates are specified at up to 110 MB/s for eSATA and 80 MB/s with FireWire 800. Connectivity with USB 2 and FireWire 400 (with an adapter) is included.

"Featuring the well-known LaCie d2 heat sink design, developed by Neil Poulton, the Little Big Disk is entirely fanless, which allows it to operate flawlessly without posing as a noise distraction when editing content. The sturdy Little Big Disk is 100 percent bus-powered by the FireWire interface, in spite of the two 2.5-inch disks inside, and weighs in at a little over 1.4 pounds," LaCie said.

The drive is fully compatible with OS X Leopard including Time Machine and Windows Vista.

The LaCie Little Big Disk Quadra 1TB is now available directly from LaCie and its dealer network. It is priced at US$659.99.
