LaCie Announces New Terabyte-class RAID 0 Drives

LaCie launched its triple interface, terabyte-class Big Disk Extreme+ drives on Thursday with USB2, FW400 and FW800 interfaces. They feature a RAID 0 configuration for high speed FireWire 800 transfers. Capacities of 1, 1.5 and 2.0 TB are available.

The new drives also feature the LaCie Shortcut Button which, with the press of a button, will launch any single application, such as a backup utility or music player.

Other features include: Triple Power Management, a 32MB cache, a thermo-regulated progressive quiet smart fan, and EMC Retrospect advanced backup and data restoration software for Windows and Mac users.

RAID 0 drives write to multiple drives simultaneously in order to achieve faster transfer speeds. "With burst transfer rates close to 90MB/s, the LaCie Big Disk Extreme+ takes full advantage of the great bandwidth of FireWire 800 connectivity. This makes the LaCie Big Disk Extreme+ especially convenient for video editors working in SD/HD or for quick individual workstation storage in a small business setting," LaCie said.

The 2.0 TB model, priced at US$849.00, is available for pre-order in the U.S. and will ship in early August. The 1.0 TB model, priced at US$349.00 and 1.5 TB model, priced at US$599 are immediately available.
