Seiko Debuts New Smart Label Printer

Seiko Instruments on Wednesday introduced the SLP (Smart Label Printer) 440, its latest thermal label printer. The new device offers 300 dpi high-resolution printing, 2D barcoding, networking over a USB or serial connection, and print speeds as fast as one label in two seconds.

The SLP 440 also features Seikois SmartCapture technology, which automatically recognizes information from applications, such as Microsoft Word and Outlook, and inserts it into the software. The SLP 440is software is a Universal Binary on the Mac.

Seiko expects to ship the printer later this month with a US$159 price tag. System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.2, a G3, G4, G5 or Core Duo processor, 128MB RAM (256MB recommended), and 30MB free hard space.
