Unity 2.0 Improves Performance, Visuals, More

Unity Technologies announced the immediate availability of Unity 2.0 on Thursday. The new version of the cross-platform game development and playback framework improved game play performance, enhanced visual quality, improved game design workflows, and more.

The updated version of Unity added the ability to use video files as surface textures, optimized the terrain engine, and added a real-time dynamic shadow system. It supports multiplayer network games, includes an asset server for developers, streams Unityweb files, and simplified the Unity Web Player installation process.

Unity 2.0 is available at the Unity Technologies Web site, and is priced at US$199 for an Indie license, or $1,499 for a Professional license.
