Apple Launches ‘Browse by Category’ in App Store for Improved Discovery

| News

Apple launched a new "Browse by Category" feature for the App Store on Thursday. The feature allows users a fast visual way to narrow down their app search for improved discovery.

Apple made the announcement via Twitter:

Clicking through to the link shows a page with 24 categories, including Books, Games, Education, Navigation, Newsstand, Productivity, Travel, and more, as shown in the screenshot below.

The view is also accessible from the main App Store landing page a few rows down from the top. As of this writing, Apple hasn't included a link from the main iTunes landing page.

These appear to be the same categories that have been available in the drop-down menu and sidebar for a long time. I will be excited when they get subcategories implemented—hopefully multiple levels.
