Apple: Podcast Subscriptions Top 1 Billion

Podcast subscriptions have topped the 1 billion mark at the iTunes Store, and to celebrate the milestone Apple highlighting popular shows dating back to 2005 when the podcasting section was first added to iTunes.

The podcasts Apple is highlighting include classics such as Happy Tree Friends, Stuff You Should Know, and This American Life, and current popular podcasts like WTF with Marc Maron, The Adam Carolla Show, and The Rachel Maddow Show.

The 1 billion subscriptions podcast list is also available through Apple's own Podcasts app for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.

iTunes isn't the only place where people can subscribe to podcasts, so the total number of podcast subscriptions must be well over a billion. Podcasting is changing how and where we get our news and entertainment. We're still at the beginning of this information revolution.
