Half Life 2 Comes to the Mac

| Games

It may have taken over five years, but the popular Half Life 2 game is finally available for Mac OS X. Valve released the game on Wednesday for its Steam for Mac platform, and included a nod to Apple’s 1984 Mac commercial in honor of the event.

The first person shooter-style game has won several awards over the years and has even been called the best game of all time.

Valve’s Steam includes a long list of popular games such as Left 4 Dead 2, Counter Strike, Mac Payne and Half Life. The service hosts over 1,100 games and includes more than 25 million players around the world.

The company plans to roll out new games for the Mac on Wednesdays, and will offer feature parity with the Windows version of the platform.

Half Life 2 for the Mac is priced at US$19.99 and is available at Valve’s online Steam store.

personal advice is buying the orange box (less than $30 on Amazon) which includes HL2, Portal, TF2 etc.

Most of these games are coming to the Mac eventually wink

Typo (again) —that should be “Max Payne” not “Mac Payne”

Not just feature parity, but both Win and Mac Versions. I bought the Orange Box for Boot Camp when it came out, so I can now download all the Mac versions of those games free as they become available. Great stuff!

It’s too bad I can’t transfer my retail boxed copies of Civ4 to my Steam account, so I could play the games without having the CD in the drive. It was a nice feature of Blizzard’s Battle.net accounts. I guess
