Long lines and shipping delays aside, Apple may have shipped between 2.4 and 2.6 million iPads in March. Apple hasn’t offered an official figure for iPad 2 sales yet, so word of the high shipping number comes via unnamed upstream parts suppliers.
Apple’s iPad 2
The unnamed sources, according to DigiTimes, claim Apple is on track for somewhere between 4 million and 4.2 million iPads a month, or some 12 million units during the second quarter.
Apple began shipping the iPad 2 in March, and quickly sold out in retail stores while pushing online orders out to five weeks. While inventory seems to be getting a little easier to come by, many stores are still seeing iPad 2 lines on a regular basis.
The sources DigiTimes cites aren’t always the most reliable, so until Apple offers up its own numbers, the quantity of iPad 2 units shipped should be treated as just an estimate.
