Passes for Apple’s World Wide Developers Conference went on sale on Monday and sold out within hours, leading one entrepreneur to offer up their pass on eBay for US$2,500 — well above the $1,599 Apple charged for conference passes.
WWDC passes top $2,500 on eBay
Apple hosts the annual event to give iOS and Mac OS X developers a preview of the company’s OS road map and to give developers and IT professionals some face time with its engineers. With the conference selling out so quickly, there are likely many developers wishing they acted sooner to order ticket, and are now turning to eBay in hopes of getting ahold of a pass.
The terms Apple includes with WWDC purchases allow for transfers to other people ahead of pass activation, although the company most likely intended that to be used by employers that purchases passes and then assign them to employees. There isn’t, however, any wording that appears to block someone from buying a pass and reselling it, just as eBay user blabe1 is doing.
WWDC 2011 is scheduled for June 6 through June 10 at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco, and attending the event looks to have become more expensive for procrastinators.
