World-building games like Minecraft are very popular, and for some people the real fun is in the "mods," getting to add things like the local weather or turning everything into candy. If that's the part of Minecraft you like, there's now a way to build your own. LearnToMod is a project from ThoughtSTEM, a computer science education organization. There are two options: you can learn using Javascript, or by using "blocks", an easy way to learn concepts without worrying about syntax errors. For a pre-order price of $30, you get three months of access to a server, and a lifetime rate of $10 monthly for continued access. Also included are video tutorials and a browser-based coding environment, so getting started requires nothing more than a copy of Minecraft. Their pre-order is going through the end of the year.
