In t he beginning, there were chalk boards, and they were good. Good, not great. There was chalk dust, clapping of erasers, and some wiseguy scratching their fingernails on the board. Then came whiteboards with dry erase markers. No more mess. Plus, higher end units came with mechanisms that would scan the board and produce a paper copy, usually on annoying thermal paper. Better, but there was still room for improvement.
