Altigen Shows iFusion Docking Station for iPhone

· by · Macworld/iWorld Expo

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Altigen was showing off iFusion SmartStation for iPhone, an integrated communications docking station for the iPhone, at the recent Macworld Expo show. For those who love their iPhone, but would like the features of a full sized desktop phone, iFusion provides many benefits.

The iFusion dock will accept the iPhone 3G, 3GS and 4, and provides power, battery charging and data synchronization via an integrated USB cable. There’s both a handset and a hands-free speakerphone, and the five buttons on the phone control Bluetooth pairing, mute, speakerphone, volume up and volume down. A 3.5mm stereo port allows you to attach external speakers.

The iFusion is available in black or white, has a retail price of US$169, and will be shipping in April 2011.  Pre-orders can be made now, and will enjoy a $20 discount.

Very cool product, but I can go into Frys and buy a full featured Telephone for about $19.

Why does this cost so much?

John did you get to examine the device? My concern is that a future iPhone might not fit properly. Does it use a universal dock adaptor?

More and more people are getting rid of their landline telephone service and just going with cell service.

I suppose that the relatively high price is in part to recoup R&D costs.

The specs say it uses the Apple 30-pin Connector, and it looks like there’s enough space to handle current and (potentially) larger iPhone-like devices.

Thanks John.

Another nice feature of this is that you can connect external speakers and use it as a music system. This might be something I want on my birthday gift wish list.

I use my iPhone for my business line and this product seems like it would be a bit of an upgrade for it for when I’m in the office. The speaker phone and full-sized handset would be useful. It is a bit pricey; hopefully it’s really well made.

I still have a landline and give that number out to certain people. Then I use Parliant’s PhoneValet manage and filter incoming calls. Most outgoing calls are done on the iPhone. Yes, this would be a nice a device if it is robust product.

Could you use this with the skype app?
