WhatsApp for iOS Adds Notification Reminders for Messages

whatsapp for iOS

WhatsApp started testing a reminder feature for incoming messages weeks ago. The feature is now live on iOS, giving users a simple way to resurface important texts without relying on third-party apps.

How the Reminder System Works?

You can set a reminder on any individual message, whether in a one-on-one chat or a group conversation. WhatsApp offers preset timers ranging from one minute to one day, along with a custom option that lets you pick an exact date and time. Once a reminder is active, the app shows a small bell icon on the message bubble.

When the scheduled reminder arrives, you receive a notification that looks like a new message but with a “Reminder” tag. This ensures you know it is a resurfaced alert you created, not a fresh text. After the notification appears, WhatsApp clears the reminder automatically to keep your chat view uncluttered.

Privacy and Availability

According to WABetaInfo, the reminders are processed entirely on-device. No one else in the conversation can see them, and WhatsApp itself does not have access to the reminder content. This guarantees that reminders remain private while still giving you an easy way to stay organized.

WhatsApp has released this feature with version 25.25.74 of its iOS app, which is available now through the App Store. Some users may also receive the feature on earlier builds, and Meta says it will roll out more broadly over the coming weeks.

Maybe Useful

The new reminder system addresses a common problem: forgetting to respond to messages in busy conversations. Previously, users often kept chats unread or relied on external reminders to keep track of follow-ups. With this update, WhatsApp integrates the solution directly into the app. The feature helps you manage tasks, coordinate deadlines, and revisit important discussions without leaving the platform.

WABetaInfo first reported on the feature in beta testing for Android, where it has already been available. With the iOS rollout, WhatsApp is aligning the experience across platforms, ensuring users on both systems benefit from the same functionality.
