Apple released 26.2 betas for developers earlier this week. The first public betas are now out, including HomePod Software 26.2. You can install it today if you join the public program.
What’s new in HomePod 26.2 public beta 1
Stability and performance improvements. This release targets reliability and responsiveness for HomePod and HomePod mini. Apple has not listed headline features in this build, and early notes point to bug fixes and polish.
AirPlay and playback refinements. The 26 cycle brought music features like Crossfade and broader audio tweaks. 26.2 continues that track with under-the-hood updates that improve streaming stability and handoff behavior.
Home groundwork for upcoming accessories. Code discovered in the 26.2 betas references a new first-party smart-home accessory flag in the Home stack. That points to platform-level prep, even if nothing is visible on HomePod yet.
How to get the public beta
- On your iPhone, join the Apple Beta Software Program and sign in with your Apple ID.
- Open the Home app on that iPhone. Go to Home Settings > Software Update > HomePod Beta Updates.
- Turn on beta updates for the HomePod speakers you want to enroll. Leave Automatic Updates on, or tap Update to install.
That’s it. Your HomePod will download 26.2 public beta 1 when it appears in the Home app. Remember that downgrades are not supported on HomePod, so enroll only if you are comfortable running test software.
